Claire Bowers and Carmel Haigh from Bechtle were nominated for their dedicated support of litter picks across the estate, reporting fly tipping incidents, organising the winter coat collection, and their tireless support for numerous charities and activities.

Sarah Steers from Wickes received her award for encouraging the BID to join her team for World Clean Up Day, an initiative that has inspired individuals and teams across the estate to regularly participate in litter picking activities, making a significant difference to the local environment.
The Brackmills Heroes awards scheme encourages people from across the estate to nominate those everyday stars who go the extra mile to make Brackmills brilliant.

All three heroes were celebrated at the BID AGM in September, where they received a well-deserved round of applause and were rewarded with £25 vouchers.

Carmel Haigh said:

It was such a surprise to us both. We are absolutely delighted to be recognised as Brackmills Heroes. We feel fortunate to be able to take part in these wonderful community actions alongside our colleagues, who are always as eager to get involved in our wonderful business community.

Sarah Steers commented:

It feels amazing to be nominated as a Brackmills Hero. I didn’t expect to be thanked for organising something that I was passionate about and enjoyed doing, but it is wonderful to be recognised for this. Thank you for the thank you, Brackmills BID team.

Sarah, who has a lifelong passion for the environment, started involving her Wickes team in litter picks in 2022 as a wellbeing initiative during Mental Health Week. The success of these activities led to the development of the Brackmills BIG litter pick in partnership with the BID and the Northants Litter Wombles. Sarah adds:

I would encourage anyone to persuade their management teams that getting involved in initiatives like this give their colleagues a huge sense of achievement and pride in their local surroundings whilst also improving physical and mental health and building stronger team bonds.
