Brackmills Hero: Meet Les Webster
Les has been a steady and reliable presence on the estate for 15 years, and his longstanding support for the BID has not gone unnoticed. It felt only right to recognise him as a Brackmills Hero.
As Les Webster prepares to retire from SBS after fifteen years as branch manager, we wanted to take the opportunity to thank him properly. Les has been a steady and reliable presence on the estate throughout his tenure, and his longstanding support for the BID — across events, charity campaigns and everything in between — has not gone unnoticed. It felt only right to recognise him as a Brackmills Hero.
Les joined SBS in 2011 and has been involved with the BID from the outset, attending meetings and supporting the community where he can alongside the day-to-day demands of running his branch. His approach has always been practical and unpretentious — getting on with things, backing the right causes and encouraging others to do the same.
A good example of that is his recent donation of out-of-date first aid supplies for Northampton Supports Ukraine – one of the BID’s charity partners. Les jumped at the chance to do something meaningful for this important cause; “I believe it is a great use of provisions that would normally go to waste, it makes perfect sense to send them to those in need” he said.
Fifteen years in and Les’s verdict on the BID is unequivocal; “I think the BID team do a great job in managing the estate in full,” he says. “I do believe it is the best kept estate in Northampton — maybe Northants.” And his advice to others thinking about getting involved? “Come along to the meetings when you can, meet the team and get involved with the time that you have.”
It is that kind of consistent, positive support over many years that makes a real difference to a community like Brackmills. Les was genuinely surprised to be nominated — very surprised and grateful, by his own account — which is probably the best endorsement of all.
Congratulations Les and thank you for everything you have done to support Brackmills over the years. We wish you a very well-deserved retirement.
