Brackmills hosts county’s first football tournament tackling County Lines awareness
Northamptonshire's first CPD Football Tournament brought together businesses and organisations from across the county for two days of sport, learning and community action
Delivered in partnership with Crimestoppers, Northamptonshire Police, Decathlon and West Northants Council, the event combined competitive football with vital workshops on County Lines, exploitation and safeguarding.
Held at Decathlon’s Distribution Centre on Brackmills in early October, the tournament saw all-male teams compete on day one and all-female teams take to the pitch on day two. Brackmills-based John Lewis and Miswa Chemicals joined Decathlon in each fielding a team of players. However, victory went to Woodhill Prison in the men’s tournament, whilst the Blue Team triumphed in the women’s competition.
But the event was about far more than the final score. Participants engaged in important conversations about corporate social responsibility and the practical steps organisations can take to spot the signs of exploitation and protect vulnerable young people in their communities.
The tournament fostered wellbeing, teamwork and stronger relationships across the county, all whilst delivering a serious and vital message about safeguarding.
Lydia Patsalides from Crimestoppers said: “This tournament has shown the real power of bringing organisations together – not only to enjoy sport and wellbeing, but also to tackle serious issues like County Lines and exploitation. By uniting businesses, charities and public services, we can create safer communities and ensure young people are better protected..”
Special thanks goes to Decathlon for their outstanding support, providing the venue, referees, goals, kit bags and t-shirts to help make the event such a success.
Lydia adds: “The passion, teamwork and commitment across both days was inspiring, so much so that we are already starting work on plans for next years tournament. Watch this space.”
